I don't get the "certificate of authenticity". As in this case, the COA is in one place or lost, the painting in another. Does that make the painting any less authentic? If I attach a COA to someone elses painting does that authenticate that it's mine? Your signature is attached to the painting and goes everywhere the painting goes, THAT is the proof of authenticity.
I would explain this to the customer. If they still want a COA then I would type one up - why not ? I'd give them a stack of them if they wanted.
