Interview with a Blue Heron

I took these back in 2010 and thought I had posted them here, but could not find them....I was looking at some old files and I think these are my best shots of a heron.....I took better images back then....I tried harder, went out more, knew my camera better, etc.....I got to Assateague at about 5 pm, and this heron was fishing a spillway. I got LOTS of shots that I have not even processed. I sat down about 15 feet from the spillway and set up my tripod.....he would fly off every time a car or hiker would walk by, and then he would fly back and fish, always keeping an eye on me but oddly not afraid of me. I was tickled pink that day!!!!

Re: Interview with a Blue Heron

Oh my!

These are terrific, Natalie.

I'd describe the first as a "formal portrait," and it's an outstanding one, well composed and exposed, and nicely sharp (as all 4 of these are).

The second is my favorite; I like photos of birds in unexpected postures. As with #1, it's top-notch in all aspects.

Number 3 is an excellent shot of a GBH in flight - something I've never achieved. Well done.

And number 4 makes me wonder - is the bird startled, upset or angry at something?

Really nice set of images, Natalie.

Thank you, Dave and Steve.....
Maybe if I eventually retire, I can get back into my "groove" and maybe get a longer lens....

Re: Interview with a Blue Heron

Natalie, delightful shots. agree fully with Dave, #2 is my favorite for the same reason - an unusual pose that engages the viewer. Tack sharp also which definitely is key.

Nicely done!

Regards,
Dale

Re: Interview with a Blue Heron

Very nice images. It is hard to not photograph a GBH when seen, even though I probably have dozens of shots.

These are gorgeous Natalie, professional nature photography.
Number one is my favorite, perfect focus, composition, and lighting plus a calming mood.

Re: Interview with a Blue Heron

I think your photographs are still great, Natalie. You just had more time back then. You have too many things on you plate right now, none of which you can put on the back burner to do another day.
