What form of compressed charcoal/conte/pastel do you prefer (stick/woodless or pencil), and why?

Can’t get a broad stroke with a pencil. (Yes, I sharpen them by hand with long lead.) Use pencil in small sketchpad.

I haven’t used charcoal very often, but when I have I’ve used it in pencil form.

I don’t like the mess, so I like a pencil.

I use them all in all their forms for reasons of:

Size of work ( amount of area to cover)
                    Small details

I use the bars on their sides for larger coverage and for their edges, Pencils for more controlled rendering/shading.

I also use chunks and powder.
