Silk painting

I am making a painting on silk. Have never painted on fabric before. Is it okay if i strech it by just taping it onto a wooden frame or do i need to stretch it on a wooden frame like canvas? How may just taping it affect it adversely?

Thanks a lot for any help!

Re: Silk painting

It has been a while since I painted on silk, but when I did I used a wooden stretcher frame and covered it with clear packaging tape. If you don't the silk dye will soak into the wood. I also used several hooks that fastened into the silk then attached by a rubber band type elastics to the frame. That way the silk does not touch the frame. The silk dye will run if the silk touches the frame. So, your silk will be floating inside the frame. I hope the way I explained it makes sense.
