This is kinda' amusing, since I've never really painted a subject in this manner.
I really enjoy watching Buck Paulson create his oil paintings on TV. For some subjects, he would not be my favorite painter, but he paints many forest scenes, and ocean scenes in a loose, painterly manner befitting the subjects, in my opinion.
I had watched him paint this subject on TV, and when it was all over, and done with, I wished I had just taped his show so I could have just a smattering of an idea that I could use for a similar painting.
Well, the show was re-aired in a few weeks, and this time, I taped it. I played it back, and took some very low-quality, still shots of the TV screen on my cell phone, and then ran them into my computer. I didn't care how the color appeared--I just wanted some shapes, and values of the subject.....waves, and rocks, and sky. I just wanted his basic "layout", and composition.
So, this is the seascape that I created after a demo. that I studied, presented by Buck Paulson, on TV:
