carved hair sticks

Here are a couple of hairsticks that I carved and finished. I have a box full of them cut, peeled and mostly shaped with the knife. I plan to finish them this winter. Not all have the sprial and some will have lighter golden oak stain. Sorry for the dark picture.

These are to sell at the gatehouse up the road from us at Liard Hot Springs in the summer months. I sell a lot of crafty things there every year. It gives me something to do in the winter months, in addition to painting. I also plan to make some carved walking sticks this summer with leather wrapped handles.

I'm having a lot of fun taking up the woodcraft! I did most of the work on these by hand. I just recently bought a Dremel but haven't used it yet for anything but sanding some of these and some steel ones that I made.

For those of you who don't know what hair sticks are, here's a a few pics.

What a novel idea, a convenient hobby in an RV.

Thanks for the additional photos; I had no idea of what the first one was!!! Beautiful work. I guess our wee northern town is too isolated from Muncho Lake. I'll keep an eye out for these when we travel abroad to the next town with has a 'Walmart' and extra sites!! Nicely done!
