Re: David's "Sketching Utah" thread.

Thanks Debbie.

Here's another one from last July, also in Big Cottonwood Canyon;

Where is everybody? It seems to have died off here. I guess I'm partly to blame, it's been a while since I've been in here.

Re: David's "Sketching Utah" thread.

Thanks Joan, Debby.

Today was the annual model railroad show at the Ogden Union Station. I'm not a model railroader but I have been a model builder so I appreciate all kinds of scale modeling and this is the biggest model railroad show of the year in Utah so I often attend it. This show is also a sketching opportunity. Ogden Union Station is a museum and there are a lot locomotives, cabooses and railroad cars on display all around the property. I didn't know if I would get the chance to sketch today though, the weather forecast did not look good. Thankfully the weatherman was wrong and we had a very nice day, the only time I was uncomfortable was when a breeze kicked up while the sun was behind a cloud.

This is an old gondola;

This is the back end of a fairly modern diesel locomotive;

David, really cool to see these again; I lurked before and always loved seeing your sketches. Makes me a little homesick, but I like seeing them.

Thanks Debby.

Thanks Carey, are you from Utah?

Funny thing. Today I had a visit. I showed this person my studio and all my paintings in it, then I showed her a couple of my sketchbooks........she was more impressed with the sketches.

Re: David's "Sketching Utah" thread.

There really is just something about sketches...

I am from Idaho, but you know, not much difference. I lived in Ogden for a time and we are (finally!) planning to move back, somewhere.

David, I love your sketches, especially the railroad ones. I have started following because of the railroad and landscape sketches.

Carey, when you move back we'll have to get together for a sketchcrawl some time.

Thanks Vivien, good to be back.

Thanks Blue Ridge.

Some really nice sketches in the last few pages. I really like the ones of Cottonwood Canyon, as well as the two snow sketches.

That waterfall is stunning! And it's sound familiar to me, somebody liking the sketches more than the paintings. Happens to me often!

Re: David's "Sketching Utah" thread.

Thanks for the kind comments everybody. Mother Nature and a nasty cold have conspired to keep my indoors for the last few weeks so I haven't done any real sketching for a while. I decided to defy Mother Nature today though and went out sketching. I got rained on a bit, hailed on a bit and blinded by the sun a bit......only during spring! Anyway I did three pen and watercolor sketches at the Jordan River Parkway.
