Re: Fur & Feathers Challenge -June

Penny. Indy is adorable - such lovely soft eyes. Wow, you have been a busy girl. Well done on all three. Love the curly hair on the bull.

Christel. Absolutely love your pigs. Excellent work on the cracked earth.

Vivien I really like the clean lines of your mixed media bull.

Not sure if I will be able to take part this month. I am away on a Workshop - on the psychology of sketching. It is very interesting and the Academy is taking care of us nicely with lots of coffee and biscuits. Days are long 8 hours of study. Whew. I might just be able to get in a sketch before the end of the challenge. Will try.

Thanks, Kay, Viv and Christel.

Your bull certainly has a "look" in his eye, Viv. Well done. I like the colours.

Great pig and piglet, Christel. Excellent work on the ground!

Re: Fur & Feathers Challenge -June

Your mean bull is very neat, Viv, looks as if he is wanting a fight
Christel, now your sow and piglet are so realistic, love them both standing on the dried up ground

Here is the part lab Indy; used watercolor pencils on w/ water added...did not have a yellow ochre, only yellow so this looks as if the dog is jaundiced It was fun anyway at 9x12 on Canson paper.

Re: Fur & Feathers Challenge -June

It's gorgeous, Kay! So like Indy, I really like the colours of his fur, and his expression, and that you've shown my arm round him. Thank you.

Re: Fur & Feathers Challenge -June

Well, I chose the Hereford bully boy this time around and painted him with hand mixed PearlEx watercolor paint in my Nujabi Sketchbook. 81/2X11 inches. He has a pearlescent shimmer and the highlights in his coat are a bright metallic gold. I finished filling in the entire sketchbook this time which is a major accomplishment for me. I hadn't been much into art journaling prior to joining wet canvas. This site has given me a lot of inspiration over the past couple of years and it will continue to do so as long as I have access to the internet. Thanks for the monthly challenges here and at other areas of this site. It gets me in a creative mood and sets me up to paint more frequently than I had in the past prior to joining up here. Once again there are lovely paintings of animals and wildlife popping up on my screen this month as I view what others have done with this challenge. All of them in various media in your own individual style and techniques. Keep them coming. I may do another one yet this month if I make the time for it. As always, Deb Hill

Chammi - I really like the sound of that course! Something I would enjoy doing too. Sounds really fascinating!

Kay - A totally relaxed dog, blissfully asleep - love it Kay!
Yes my poor Bull does look mean doesn't he!

Deb - Love your Bull! He has such a coy expression - a very friendly bull indeed!
Yes I've always found the Challenges are great for kick-starting our creativity. And well done for finishing your whole Sketchbook!

Re: Fur & Feathers Challenge -June

This month really went fast, not sure were all the time went.

Penny - Very nice works, you have surely been busy

Vivien - the bull came out very nice with the pan pastels. I have never tried them yet.

Christel - your piggies are lovely!

Kay - he looks so sleepy, probably snores, too LOL

Deborah - your bull looks much more pieceful, and quite nosy!

I am pieceful this time, too, just did the two sheep in the greenery. They do look a bit surprised at the interruption.
Size is 8x6 on Bienfang wc paper, misc. watercolours and Prismacolor Premier Markers.

Re: Fur & Feathers Challenge -June

My experience with livestock is out front. Dairy bulls like holsteins for example tend to be among the most dangerous. I have no idea why but more people get killed by dairy bulls in the USA than the various beef breeds like Angus and Herefords and black baldy's. Maybe it's a matter of respect or handling but my experience says that angus and herefords are among the gentlest of the bovine breeds. Take everything I say from the school of hard knocks. Dairy bull calves just seem to be more aggressive as well. As always, Deb

Re: Fur & Feathers Challenge -June

Deb - that's interesting. We've always found most entire bulls unpredictable. We rear a handful of calves on for re-selling for beef cattle and will now only buy weaned, small calves who have already been neutered to rear. After some experiences, many years ago with bull-calves - have found they are not worth the trouble they often provide!
