Christel, your seal seems very happy in it's natural environment.
Byron Bay at sunset, beautiful work Sandie. I tried this one but couldn't pull it off and ended up trashing it. Yours is very believable. I especially like the sea.
What make of watercolour pencils do you use and is it smooth paper?
Merriweather your Chapman River trees are great. You've created a sense of depth with the ink. Have you thought of doing a lino print of this?

Sanlyn , thanks for your comments, the pencils are Derwent & Caran Dache. Paper is not

Re: February Watermedia 2019

Merriweather: that Chapman work is top notch - a treasure. Excellent graphically.

Bunny your use of colour is beautiful on the eagle image. You achieve a lovely saturation whilst keeping it transparent; excellent.

Sandie: Great result on Byron bay - well done!

Re: February Watermedia 2019

Oh wow what wonderful work here! Sorry I've been missing but it's our Summer holidays here in New Zealand and we've had family and friends staying with us.

bikegrinch/Tony - Wonderful Falcon! A Falcon with attitude!
Great work on the Eagle, he looks very impressive!
I really like your mono of the river! Beautiful!
Oh a very pretty watercolor of the yellow bird! I like it very much!

Merriweather - Thanks for Hosting.
Your Falcon turned out beautiful!
I like your take on the pond landscape. The rough tooth paper has taken the pen and watercolor beautifully!
The Ink and Gouache has turned out super! Love it!

Arty Singer/ Sandie - Lovely scene with those watercolor pencils. Very well rendered indeed.
Another take on the Falcon - all are different and all beautifully rendered!
Awww, sweet little yellow bird, how pretty!
Beautiful painting of the backlit scene! Stunning work!

Kay - That bird is beautiful, gorgeous colors Kay!

Lengert/ Sanlynn - Great job on the outstretched wing of the Falcon! Beautiful!
That's a lovely mono of the River! I think you've done great with the watercolor pencils.

IsobelW - I like your version of the bird, he looks great in those bright colors!
Lovely job with those watersoluble crayons on the yellow bird.

John - Lovely painting of the river landscape. I like the way you've simplified the elements.

Bunny - Hey there! I'm so glad someone painted the seal, beautiful work. And you've done the Swans too, beautiful and super reflections!
Lovely painting of the Eagle, he looks gorgeous!

Christel - You've done the Seal too. Well done great job on him/her! And I love the setting you've put him in!

Great work by everyone and I hope I haven't missed commenting on anyone's painting?
I'm working on mine now and will hopefully get it posted tomorrow.

Re: February Watermedia 2019

Happy V Day! I wish I could comment on all of the wonderful renderings.

Sandie, you did such an outstanding job with your beach scene I am (almost ) ashamed to post this. Landscapes are just not "me", but I am trying to broaden my "horizons" :. At minimum, I changed the colors of the ref photo some, but I got tired of playing with the water, which I over masked. It just not look natural at all to me, but at least I tried! Possibly I will do a cool version, but the subject is not appealing to me now.

C & C welcome.

Re: February Watermedia 2019

thanks JoyK, Happy V Day to you too.

I am looking at the beach scene and thinking, wow... what a wonderful idea to change the colours. I love how you have done it. You have given the whole scene a different take and I love it. Especially wonderful is the foreground , your wonderful wet sand and people reflections... I echo Vivien's comment.
If this were mine, I would be very proud. Beautiful work.

Vivien Maloney , The subtle w colours worked perfectly for these tiny fungi. Beautiful delicate work.

Re: February Watermedia 2019

Joy, I'd be thrilled to sign my name to this beauty with its tan tones and water areas that do not look over-masked at all. So lovely!

Your mushrooms done in wc pencils are really nice and neat, Viv, so soft and natural. Fantastic!

Vivien, your textures look so velvety!

I realized that I forgot to paint in the distant people in my haste to finish and be done with it! I will post the updated one tomorrow.

Viv, Kay, and Merriweather, thank you.

Re: February Watermedia 2019

Joy: I so enjoy the colours in your beach scene. The background is really excellent - wow.

I also enjoyed you so openly sharing the stuggle; which I think all us artists can identify with. We are, and remain, our hardest critics. I guess that is what keeps us addicted to painting?

Vivien: Your mushroom watercolour drawing is so good in how you capture the softness of the actual mushrooms - very well done.

Joy, your painting is gorgeous. I think the water looks great. Sometimes if I'm not happy with something I put to one side for a while and then take a fresh look at it. We're looking with fresh eyes and it's fabulous!

Vivien -- nice painting...nice effect with the pencils.

Re: February Watermedia 2019

Your encouragement is greatly appreciated, and I am certainly not looking for a "participation trophy"! You know the old joke about how many artists it takes to change a light bulb; ten - one to change the bulb and nine to tell him it looks good! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. While it is wonderful that everyone on WC is so encouraging, it seems as if it is moving away from some critique, which I feel can be instructional. One of the challenges stipulated only encouraging comments and no harsh criticism unless requested. Since I've made some suggestions on the works at times, I hope that wasn't added because of that!

Anyway, I forgot to put in the distant figures, so I am reposting the painting. Sorry about the omission.

I give credit and an encouraging word or two where credit is due. You are working very hard in a difficult medium and are earning praise. Keep up the good work!
