Bente Caro's portrait

It's years now since I posted a drawing. I thought it would be fun to post one. Since a while I write a short art statement to my artworks I include in all of my post:

Bente – 01-10-19

Every woman needs a celebration and when one sees a particular beautiful one and the principles of clairobscur love to portray her, then it is time to make a move and render her in my roundism style. The reference picture gave me all I needed but the challenge was to add value by dividing her face into straight planes and curved ones. I was attracted by the round curves in the hair as well as some straight diagonals across the face pointing upwards. I kept the sternum quite abstract and in the end decided not to hatch the lower right side to a total black, counterbalancing the central placed and upper left ligher parts.

Graphite pencil drawing (Sakura 0.5 mm, 3B) on Canson Bristol paper (21 x 29.7 x 0.1 cm) - A4 format)
Artist: Corné Akkers

Wow this is very nice. You clearly have a handle on your roundism style. A nice variation on cubism, without the various viewpoints. It's nice to see someone develop a unique identifiable style and take a step back from pure representation of a subject. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

I like it. Interesting geometrical stylisation but it really conveys a personality. Well executed.
