flowers and fruit

I am just getting into oil painting more now I have done a few paintings but still have lots to learn, I am a pencil drawer mostly but want to do more painting as I would love to be able to paint portraits, Here is one of my first oil paintings

You are very talented Gordon! Painting seems to suite you well.

Please study the bowl with the apples from your photo posted here. It seems to be floating on the table. Crystal and glass are challenging but worth while challenges in painting. There are some excellent videos online by artist specializing in these subjects. There is also an excellent book on painting glass by a watercolor artist...I can't remember his name at the moment. I found it at my library several years ago and applied it to my oil painting techniques. Your flowers and apples are beautiful...keep up the great work!

Following up on Seaside's post, it appears it is the shadows that are the issue. If the one on the crystal bowl starts at the edge it will ground it. Those apples should cast a shadow just about as dark as they are on the base of the vase as well. Outside of that, you couldn't ask for much more in a still life.
