Good Morning Oilycats!!!

Oh No Jessicat! I don't know whether to say it's great to hear from you, or Please don't combust! I hope everything is okay.

I totally blew off my obligations yesterday. Bf wanted to go to Palm Desert and get a gift for his sister back in Maine, and it didn't take much convincing to get me to take a road trip in the new car. And I don't feel one whit guilty about it either!

Hi Marciacat!
Been a tornado lately, hopefully I'm at the end of it tho.

But I have been painting a lot at least.

Hope your road trip was fun.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... March 2018

Maybe March will just be lamblike all month long. Glad you have been painting.

Road trip was awesome. I bought a Mexican chiminera.

I am not sure where it is going, maybe just a foot to the left of where it sits now.

Also, one of the birds in the yard that I have been wanting to get a picture of, Phainopepla:

Marcia, I love it! I had never seen a Mexican chiminera, but it is charming! It looks very old and mysterious!

Jessica, I'm so glad to see you posting a bit more today... I just hope you can do more painting than ever. I'm still stuck on my gessoing, and doing it very badly. Lumps and almost no smoothness! I think I need to go to the hardware store and get a good sandpaper thingy. I also have gesso all over my hands.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... March 2018

Honestly, never got very good at using Acrylic Gesso, but switched to less flexible gesso when I moved to panels instead of canvas for most of my painting. Sounds like you got a really good buy on that big container of it though, and it is a good brand of it, so it will probably go a very long way indeed Nancy.

I did a digital painting of my daughter from a photograph the other day, turned out pretty good. . . I should try getting one of these done in a traditional media sometime soon. Well the painting is done in ArtRage for the iPad, nice little app, decent oil paint simulation (among the best on the market honestly). I happen to own a pressure sensitive stylus that works on the iPad, so the results allow for some stroke width variation by simply pressing a bit harder.

Good Morning Oilycays!!!

Wow, Delo, I really like your digital portrait, I think I will check out that software. I have ProCreate, but never got the hang of it. That would make a great painting.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... March 2018

Thanks Marcia, I have been using the software and app for years and am constantly amazed by the sheer volume of stuff I still have left to learn in them. They have a free trial for the computer that allows you to try the whole package, just prevents saving large files and has a watermark I think. It is my favorite software though, has a real natural look and feel to it. The iPad version is actually pretty trimmed down though, much less control over brush options and such.

It is a nice digital portrait...your daughter is adorable...I would think it would be a good study tool for a painting.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... March 2018

I no longer have a wacom tablet for my computer, so trying the free trial is out, but $5 for the iOS app might be worth trying it out. Providing I can find my Nomad brush/stylus. Some day when I have free time again to try stuff out.
