Re: Welcome to What's On Your Easel......February 2018

I guess I've got the values all wrong on this one and the little man appears to have rubbed yellow paint on his cheeks. It doesnt look this bad on the canvas.
There's a mile of canvas above the people -struggling with a background decision.

Nice @OziAfricana Yellow cheeks remind me of curcumin's color. Anyways, I think it won't be too bad if you blend them in and add a bit of red here and there. It's a lovely wip!

Here's my WIP.. starting to wish I used walnut oil instead of my walnut oil alkyd as the medium. I can't blend the skin properly because it dries too fast, but hey I'm learning.

WIP oils, 27x20, "Royal Bonn Vase with Roses", learning how to do roses is a real PITA!

Some serious critiques would be welcomed!

I think I'll hang this one up for a while. I've been known to grab a painting I called done over a year previous and add a couple of layers. We'll see. Oil on 24"x18" stretched canvas. After Renoir (Dance at Bougival).

Re: Welcome to What's On Your Easel......February 2018

Got some fantastic portraits going this month, some nice pieces coming together there.

Greg that is a lot of landscapes you have going there. I really like the latest plein air you posted.

Been extremely busy lately, but feeling rather down, so to cheer myself I painted a monkey today.

Golden Headed Lion Tamarin:

Little guy needs some work transitioning the forehead into his mane, softening a few planes in his face, and maybe a bit of work getting his chin to recede back into his “beard” a bit. Still super fun to paint though, let this dry a few days and see about working some more layers on top.
