Nodding Daffodil

I was out 2 weekends ago taking flower photos in the local park, and was itching to paint them, but I had some other commitments to take care of first. So finally, today, I got to paint the first one. It's 4x6" oil on canvas board.

I had a canvas board I had already painted a light orange, so I used that. I was afraid it was a mistake, until I finally got to the orange center, and everything just came together. You can see on the yellow petals that the orange still shows through a bit. I'm thinking that's OK though.

Do you see anything that needs to be fixed? (I hope not , but if you do, please say so. I'd rather know than stay ignorant!)

Thanks Connie! The odd angle was part of what I liked about this one.

You obviously made a good decision ... the hint of underlying orange really works well. Nicely done.

Thank you Doris, Judy, and ReineBlanche2. I think this may be one of my best so far...(it feels strange to say that)

Not all daffodils stand tall because some look around like this one. Lovely picture.

Re: Nodding Daffodil

Thanks Kay! You have validated my feeling on this, and I will frame it as soon as it's dry enough. It's a shame it won't be dry enough in time for the art fair I'm doing this weekend! For which, I'm praying for sunshine, despite the predicted rain!!!

By the way, Kay, I love your paintings! Watercolors completely intimidate me, and yours have such deep, vibrant, and rich colors!

Re: Nodding Daffodil

Thanks Marianne, that's always the goal...I usually fall far short! With this one, it all came together when I got to the orange center. Before that, it just wasn't working...it needed that brilliant orange cone in the middle!

Lovely painting. I like the orange center and the hint of light on the yellow petals. The muted background works very well. I very much like the nodding aspect.
