Re: Stormy Weather

Hi all,
Clive, thanks for the nice comments, I imagined a few more cloud pics from NZ, Land of the long white cloud, beautiful country where you are. Noticing any strange weather lately on your side of the Tasman?

Sephie, Nearly all these cloud shots are from my back door don't even have to get wet. The sky colours around here are quite amazing . Most of my shots are of sunsets so the clouds sometimes have a touch of colour in them.

Tonights storm, we actually got rain from this one.

In coming clouds

Later

Anvil from last year.
One of these days I'm going to chop that pole down.

Seeing you like a bit of colour.
And thats a nope on the Tourist board, they should be paying me.
I just don't get out much.
macd.

Friends from parts of the big island up north call them Tatties, but we don't let them influence us. It's another country

Vahse. Oh yes And if our children are ever caught saying vayse, we beat them severely!

And can you tell me whatever happened to the aitch in your herbs? I've long pondered this. I mean to say, you don't say 'ermann Munster, now do you?

Marc,

I'll comment on your fabulous photos later. But perfect timing! How do you say things like potatoes, tomatoes, vase and herbs?

Congratulations I've learned something new today. Is this lost aitch a local phenomenon do you know? I've heard it in so many American films

Hi Sephie,
Is that a Golf Ball?
macd.

Marc wins the prize!

How did you get it? It's baffled thousands

Not quite sure what the prize is though. We'll have to think of something you'd like

Thanks to help from a friend, I think it's a high spin golf ball, complete with liquid core that sprayed out under pressure when subjected to the heat of my kitchen.

Well done indeed!

Said friend pointed me in the direction of the fascinating science and history of golfball construction:

But please, do tell, what gave the game away? And if it was Clive's untimely clue, he's toast when he wakes up

Well, you do *now* anyway

Thanks for that, I love weather maps

So, on a scale of one to ten, just how bad are these?

Re: Stormy Weather

Hi Sephie,
We used to call them spuds. Hmmmm Bangers and mash.
Potatoes, tomatoes , vase and herbs sounds right to me, certain suburbs and towns here drop their aitches, it could be a reaction to American influances seeing there are so many American shows on our tellies, this could also be said of the English shows we get here. Not aving a dig, fact of life.

Not good at scales but already tornado warnings for several counties and we have high wind and thunder so I guess I'll catch you later................

We call them spuds too (wonder why?).

Bangers and mash. A perfect meal with rich gravy. Fleur and I indulge in bar meals of these around once a week. Superb to warm us up after a cold day's storm chasing

Which way of saying them though?

(Here, I think you dropped this..........h........ )

But you're right. The media plays a big part in changing languages.

There's a strange idea around in some people's minds that languages should be changeless (my French neighbours are particularly hot on this subject). Yet history shows that languages evolve constantly. There's no right and wrong, but it's such fun to compare and have a laugh about the differences
