Mini Flowers

Since this is some kind of an inauguration, floweres are in order.

Here are a few flowers that I painted and traded over at the ATC project.

Comments welcome. These are all oil pastel on felt (velvet ) paper, ATC size at 2.5x3.5.

Cheers!

Joel

p.s. noting the definition of a miniature painting (that is should be 1/6 of the original), these are probably small format paintings rather than minis.

Jillian:
Well, I guess this 2"x3" fits into the category of a "small format" painting?
Wow! All these rules and regulations!!!!! But I'm learning and what better place to do so than our own Miniature Forum!!!

Gorgeous!
'Small format' is a really loose term. One of the best known 'La Petite' exhibtion allows anything under 10" in any one direction. And your work is that. Rules vary WIDELY in this. I think I have even seen small format refer to a 16x10" painting. Don't take MY word for it. Do your own research on these on the web.
So 'small format' is not to be confused with 'miniature'.
Regards,
Jillian

Re: Mini Flowers

These are beautiful. I have never done pastels...but imagine these are not easy to do in this small of a format.

Re: Mini Flowers

Pastel flowers in miniature seems almost a contradiction in terms! Difficult to get the finesse - these are really good!

Re: Mini Flowers

Under the guidelines of this new forum, these fit the format.

"Forum guidelines are that paintings and drawings must be 16 square inches or less. Sculptures must be 6 inches or less in any direction."

Scale is not considered in these guidelines.

These are well done.

Re: Mini Flowers

LOL... I'm sitting here trying to do the math... 16 square inches... 4" on a side, 2"x8",3"x5" and that is about all size range, right?

Re: Mini Flowers

Wow! Thank you all for the kind remarks. Doing these little flowers was really fun. There's a lot more miniature art in the ATC thread, here's the link:

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/P...ls&proj_id=728

I share the same feeling about oil pastels on such a small format. The only thing I like is the fact that the work is finished quickly. It was hard but fun.

Cheers!

Joel
