Mario, Your colors are so bold!

Alain, Love how all those warm colors make your watercolor harmonious!

Jose, Your use of color is beautiful!

[quote=AlaskaDan]Lilian I like the simple composition filled with beautiful colours...the red tree is awesome...

Thank you Dan, I may do this one again but in oils. That scene without that little red tree is what caught my eye. I admire most of your paintings. Lil

Re: October Landscape Challenge!!

Umberbrush: excellent painting. Nice, subtle, realistic colors, and I love the fine details, especially in the trees.

Skylar - Thank you!

Matthew - I like your "Forest path in Autumn" on your blog. When I have attempted those vivid reds and yellows in an autumn painting they look garish to me, but you manage to pull it off!

Re: October Landscape Challenge!!

Didn't finish because of heavy schedule but had to post what is done. Thanks Paula for the picture & challenge. Any resemblance to the original is accidental !!! Colored pencil on Artagan 11 X 15 paper, prismacolor pencils.

Enjoy

Thanks!

The funny part about those reds and yellows is that they are not actually that bright at all: the most pure parts of the colors are opaque Red Iron Oxide and "Mars Yellow" - which is opaque Yellow Iron Oxide. I also mix in hints of Sap Green to give the impression of leaves changing from green to yellow. In more sunlit autumn scenes, I may add a hint of Napthol Crimson to the reds and Azo Yellow to the Yellows, but never use the "super bright, super saturated" reds or yellows from the tube if you want realistic fall colors, IMHO.

Fred: Nice job there, and you slipped it in before the end of the month, too!

Re: October Landscape Challenge!!

The work submitted for the
Landscapes
October 2009 Challenge

have been regrouped in a gallery on Picasa Web.

You can access the Gallery by viewing all the works through this link

Or you can have access directly to the slideshow by clicking here

(I suggest you set the time for the slides at 5 or 6 seconds when the show starts)

Enjoy the show.
