Re: Different Strokes September 2011

Thanks for the nice comments on mine.

Dewi, First wash of lemon yellow. piece of rubber attached to a stick for making the dots. After painting the dots applied a wash of blue in the background - I rather liked the effect and was tempted to try it on the body of the cat but i worried it might lose the dottiness.

Maureen, Wow, love those eyes! Very expressive.

Carol, I just love those bubbles and you did a great job on the pointillism.

Trevor, wonderful cat, I love the reflection too.

Dewi, nice job, lovely eyes.

Wysiwyg, beautiful little face, and I think your 2 year old has the makings of an artist! Her addition of red has given this a very contemporary feel!

Oldhobbyist, I really like this, itís very different, like looking through frosted glass.

JTM, lovely work especially on the reflection.

Artastic, I love the bold background and cute face. Gosh I didnít even give the whiskers a thought!

Good work everyone and wonderful challenge!

Just a thought - have you tried cotton buds for the dots? They do work - go mushy quickly though!lol

Re: Different Strokes September 2011

Just want to let you all know. The reason I haven't participated in the last two challenges is because of two really difficult and fatal family tragedies. I just haven't been up for artwork at this time. I will definitely try to make an attempt at next months challenge. Thank you all. I also want to say love the work of everyone.

Re: Different Strokes September 2011

Trevors -- Very nice piece. I really like the eyes and the complementary color you chose for the background. The reflection was expertly done.

Dewi -- I love the cat as a white cat -- so fluffy! And with those gorgeous blue eyes that pop, it's a lovely portrait. Makes me want to bring that kittie home!

WYSIWYG -- Gorgeous job using varying shades of grey. Very professional looking portraiture!

Old Hobbyist -- Your piece is kind of surreal and very creative. If I didn't know there was a cat in there, I would still love the piece as a pure abstract.

JTMathis -- Lovely palette and very nice job on the reflection. Your piece really captures the essence of a cat.

Artastic -- Great freehand work! The fiery red background adds drama. Very nice.

Inky -- At last - someone to commiserate with me on the tediousness of dot dot dot! I love your approach to the pointillism - it looks great!

Re: Different Strokes September 2011

Carol, thank you... I think the dottiness got to me in the end, I put on some music and added the dots to the rhythm of the music. Must say, by the end I found it quite therapeutic.

Oh, yikes!

Re: Different Strokes September 2011

Well, Dewi, thank you for helping me to get back into the swing of painting with your very interesting 'stray cat'. I just loved the eyes and felt that they deserved real attention. As I painted them, my imagination took flight, and I decided that the postman would be mesmerised by seeing eyes like that looking at him through the postbox slit on the door!!!! It was fun but difficult getting the various glazes to give luminosity to the eyes. Glad I gave it a go.
