I'm really having fun with this one! Amazing how many little boxes and symbols Klimt puts in his paintings! Can't wait to see everyone's pieces.

Re: Different Strokes August 2011

I'm done! For better or worse I'm calling it finished - it's not overly Klimt, but it does have some of his 'suggestions'!!!!!!!
Fun

Re: Different Strokes August 2011

I just started today and never picked up on the Klimt challenge until now . I will have to extract the digit and get a move on if I am going to be ready by the 20th.

Use to denote nudity/mature subject matter Re: Different Strokes August 2011

Okay, I've nearly completed the Challenge-Challenge. As we have already learned, Klimt did landscapes and nudes in fancy clothes, but no still lifes.

Now here's my problem. I've incorporated his near pointillistic landscape style, his lots of circles on his fabrics, and his nudes into a very strange surrealistic still life. Of course, it appears that I will not be able to post it here because it needs the requisite NUDE symbol, seen on this reply, but which is absent from the thread.

Any comments?

Well, I've tried to stick to the photo reference, added Klimt's pattern ideas, had a go at the pointillism garden but you will have to imagine my nude under the table! I didn't know where to put the bits of anatomy?!

Finished, I just did the swirly pattern things, no pointilism, no nudes and no landscapes but I thoroughly enjoyed doing it. Anyway cant wait to see what you have all done - see you tomorrow.

Re: Different Strokes August 2011

Well I did enjoy doing this and I must say I am pretty happy with most of it. I think I will paint out the Klimt wanna be bits though. I did them with metallic acrylic inks but I dont think they really work, and do a bit more work on the pink tablecloth. It measures 12.5" x 15.5" and was done over the backing board of an old print, I really liked painting on the smooth surface.

It is 7.30 in the morning here and I am listening to the melodious sound of chainsaws as tree loppers go about their destructive work in my yard. Gotta be done though and I am stuck here till its done so this is getting posted nice and early thanks to them.

Re: Different Strokes August 2011

What a splendid painting, Christine! I took a look at your web site and I must say that I really like your style. The "Fruit Bowl with Wine" was another expertly done still life. Nice work!

Mine is done, but still have 3 hours to go before midnight here. Looking forward to seeing everyone's.

Re: Different Strokes August 2011

Scatty -- My apologies for not really painting the still life. I got so caught up in the Klimt style, I got carried away! At least there is a bowl of strawberries.

This is on 30" by 30" cradled gessoboard. I used a lot of metallic gold. The first photo is the overall painting, the second photo is a closeup that shows you the shine of the metallic gold.

I call it "Before the Kiss". I ran out of steam painting all the little symbols ... will add more at a later time.
