Re: Self Portraits- join in the fun!

Here's one I did when I took some collage art courses at the local community college about 15 years ago. I knew nothing and had just started doing oils. I still don't know much about portraits but will see if I can do better!! Jen

Nancy! Thanks for joining in! This looks wonderful- I love you using a single colour. You may be able to see flaws that we can't - you are the judge! It looks like a tonal study, and will make a great underpainting.
Jen- I wish I had done one 15 years ago- much less sag and wrinkles to paint! You will be able to do a great comparison!

Re: Self Portraits- join in the fun!

Here's mine. It's a simple line drawing in pencil. This is only the second time I've tried this. I think I might have to try again now and this time do some shading....

Well finally found a mirror and wish I hadn't! I did a quick pencil sketch before the sun went down. 15 years sure add a lot of sag! Jen

Re: Self Portraits- join in the fun!

This thread is motivating me to try a new self portrait. I have posted my latest (done in 2008) but I no longer have a beard and I have lost quite a bit of hair since then. Time for an update.

Re: Self Portraits- join in the fun!

Sorry not to have commented on everyones paintings. Larubia yours is really coming along nicely. I like the folds you are getting in the coat now and the back ground colours look great with it.
Leeann glad you did a sketch too. Looks good with just a few lines.
Punkjazz Love the eyes in yours, Look forward to seeing the updated version. Jen

Annemarie- love this version too!
Leeann, simple is good. I will look on with interest to see if you develop it further.
Jen- your face is less lived in than mine- a great quick study- will you paint a version?
Scott, thanks for joining in! Please have a go at one soon- its such an interesting process!

Re: Self Portraits- join in the fun!

I drew myself again today and this time added shading.

Feedback is welcome, especially related to the shading.

Re: Self Portraits- join in the fun!

I have tried to sketch myself from photos and they don't look like me. And most of the self portraits I have done, everyone says look too old. It's mostly people who know me and they are used to me smiling. And I tend to show all my wrinkles and bumps. But I do try to do at least one self portrait a year. Mainly to see if I have improved. I also did a self portrait a day for a month on one of the areas (probably ARtwork from Life) and had several people who joined me. I saw some really weird ones of me during that month.
