Maltese Wedding

This is a painting I produced for my sister at her wedding in Malta. Truly a beautiful country and I tried to express this in the background.

Re: Maltese Wedding

Welcome to WetCanvas and the forum Pete!

I like the unusual 'take' on this... the lively see-through couple and the typical street of the island .... nice memory for them.

Re: Maltese Wedding

Welcome ! I love this! I think the concept is unique and amazing. I imagine as the years go by for the couple, this painting becomes even more treasured. Just capturing the essence of the couple with as few strokes as possible has long been an interest of mine. Brilliant job.

Re: Maltese Wedding

I too like this one. The style looks precise, everything in the perspective, light, and detail strikes me right.

To my reading, the partially transparent figures strike me as time-corrected, er, um -- that is, the stone buildings and the iron lamp and all are opaque, and hence "permanent". Last forever, practically. The couple is literally just passing through, and so transparent. But the happiness of the occasion is "permanent" in that their joyful faces are rendered opaque, the bridal bouquet is "permanent", and (nice touch!) their clasping hands are "permanent".

Just my reading on this, of course. Evocative work.

Re: Maltese Wedding

Thank you very much for the feedback on this painting everyone.

Yes, the opaque colouring does represent permanence in the marriage (good spot on the clasping hands!! ) and of the location. I also really wanted to keep the beauty of the Malta enviroment and ensure it is domninant on the canvas.

As I said - thanks

Re: Maltese Wedding

Beautiful! I love the style and the only partly visible couple in the foreground! Very well done!

Great work! Very nicely done and a truly original way to depict the couple and the place.
