That's cause it's yellow, oh my goodness! I made it yellow not orange.

Cindy - Hey look at you roaring ahead with 4 paintings! Very nice. I especially like the modelling on the last one.

Virginia - Very good sets of mugs. The one with the patterns reminds me of some sweaters I have in a drawer somewhere.

Diane - Great drawing and modelling on yours. They look solid and convincing.

Re: Paint-a-Long (P.A.L.): Exploring 'pizazz' in Still Life

Here are my next two:

Both 11 x 14 on canvasboard (same as the first)

Mug's Life 2 (Complementaries). I quite like this one. I was thinking of the John Peploe example Maureen provided:

Mug's Life 3 (Pattern). I quite dislike this one. It was rushed, forced and I should have picked one pattern and done it more carefully. Both of these patterns - the harlequins and the squares- appear on the mugs. But I don't like how this turned out. All I can say is it was quick.

Re: Paint-a-Long (P.A.L.): Exploring 'pizazz' in Still Life

Thanks for the comments on mine.

Virgina....Love the patterns! You certainly put a lot of work into them.

desther....Your cups have weight to them with a very painterly style.

Colin....I like both of those even if you don't. The second one has a nice, loose feel to it--something I struggle with! I agree with the "rushed, forced" feeling....don't like that feeling at all, even though I impose it on myself most of the time. Duh!

Re: Paint-a-Long (P.A.L.): Exploring 'pizazz' in Still Life

Thanks Cindy, I had to be on the phone for about three hours so I put it on speaker and did that to keep myself sane.

Diane, I like your painterly style too, very nice!

Colin those look great, that first one is sharp. I like the last one too, it has the middle of the page horizon which doesn't normally work but does in this case because of the strong pattern of the tablecloth. That gives it pizzazz so I think it's very effective!

Colin, your cups look Picasso and Southwest at the same time.
Cindy. love your fractured tomatoes, kind of like tunnel vision.

Diane I'm taking that as a great compliment, since I admire Picasso (altho' not everyone does).

Will try something 'fractured' next. That could look even more 'Picasso'.

Re: Paint-a-Long (P.A.L.): Exploring 'pizazz' in Still Life

Great job everyone. Really neat ideas. Enjoyed viewing everyone's interpretations.
I am scrambling to finish another painting which has been in progress for a while now so that i can get started with this one. But work is keeping me busy.
Here is a link I found on fracturing that you might find useful
http://juliefordoliver.blogspot.com/...-and-demo.html
I love her paintings and have been wanting to attempt this technique.

Re: Paint-a-Long (P.A.L.): Exploring 'pizazz' in Still Life

Great work here for everyone!

Maureen - as I've already "fractured" stuff (hahaha) in a previous Plant Parade, can I use one of April's "Different Strokes" photos to "fracture" away for this PAL?

Re: Paint-a-Long (P.A.L.): Exploring 'pizazz' in Still Life

Hello! I am enjoying everyone's paintings. This is a quick one using complementary colors. I am hoping to try one or two more techniques in the next few days. Fun!

Carol - that's extremely nice (clever girl!) and I do hope it doesn't go AWOL!

There's a warning notice on the Home Page
