Robbie, stunning, stunning sky and I love the whole concept. Also like those foreground textures. You certainly have not forgotten how to use acrylics.

Linda, I really like the colours in this painting. There are also some super energetic brushstrokes. Very nice.

Re: Different Strokes May 2012 Challenge

This is my tree.

Old Hobbyist: Great work. I love the way you painted the small branches on the tree!

Chammi: I like the way you cropped the image and turned it into a portrait lay out. I like the way you paint leaves!

Linda Henning: Very delightful colors! I love your impressionistic brushstrokes

Robert: Lovely colors, I like that you decided to change the time of the day!

Re: Different Strokes May 2012 Challenge

Looks like we all chose the same image!

OH - I like this - and I've always liked Mondrian's tree-progress paintings.

Chammi - lovely fresh painting - nice piece.

Linda - love the wild feeling in this one.

Robert - absolutely gorgeous, and you got the cats in too superb sky.

Marianne - lovely bold, stark tree.

Allan - no real suggestions to improve this at all - I like it as it is. Lovely movement in the foreground and just enough attention to detail.

*****************

Mine - approx 25cm x 35cm I think - 10x14" on a piece of mountboard. All in acrylic inks and about 1.5 hours - real quickie! You need your sun specs

Re: Different Strokes May 2012 Challenge

Marianne, nice one. Like the foreground very much.

Allan, absolutely love those grasses and colours. That is really Africa. Only thing I would change perhaps, is remove the tree on the left of my screen. I think your Acacia is so nice, it can stand alone.

Maureen, what a fantastic blaze of colour. You really do amazing things with acrylic inks. Love it.

Re: Different Strokes May 2012 Challenge

Ala prima studies - all 18x24 acrylic on gessoed or ungessoed plain brown kraft wrapping paper, except the one with the red road and dark tree, which is 16x20.

The grass dried much darker than I allowed for - a re-learned lesson

paper really wrinkled on this one

16x20

found in tree trunk photo, in case you haven't guessed

the trunk got lost in the dessert long ago

Great reference photos, thanks.

Regards,
Trier

Trier, I think it is absolutely terrific that you tried out different styles, colours and compositions. That is how we develop and grow. I specially like the last one. Has a really mystical feel about it. Checking again, I also like the first one. Lovely impressionistic sky. Well done.

You all did a fantastic job. I see I have a lot to learn about color and using my imagination.

Here is mine 16x20

Re: Different Strokes May 2012 Challenge

Roseanne, you did a superb job on the 'bushveld' which is the lower bushes in the typical S.A landscape. Also love your grasses. Your Acacia tree is also really nice - perhaps a little shadow colour on the opposite side of the light source and you have a real winner here (particularly on the trunk of the tree).

Re: Different Strokes May 2012 Challenge

Chammi - Thank you for your comments and hosting this project.

Maureen - Lovely colors and overall effect. I am curious about the acrylic inks. From your experience, what are the pros and cons versus regular acrylic? Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Trier
