Morning Walk and First Ride of Spring

both of these are half sheets 140 lb
the first by a photo ref of my own, first ride in spring (before the leaves)
had fun with the texturing

This was from a photo ref by Lisilk. I think from Belize, the shadows drew me to this

I like 'em both. I would have rounded off the bottom of the tree trunk it looks flat at the moment.

Re: Morning Walk and First Ride of Spring

Yes, the shadows in No. 2 are superb the way you painted them! You captured the sun!

No. 1, yes, the bottom of the tree is a problem, plus, a bit more definition at the bottom of the wall? With this one, I would have liked the shadow of the bicyclist to fall in the other direction...because then you wouldn't have had to worry about any cast shadows from the wall. I love the bicycle and the rider! They are very well done..I love his posture...wish I were riding along with him around the lovely lake! Have you thought about redoing this, using some of those fabulous light and shadow techniques for the first ride? I think it may very well deserve it!

Fabulous painting of the woman on her morning walk. Your foilage and shadows are nicely done. I agree with the tree trunk looking a bit off in the first painting. Nice job on the fellow on the bicycle.

Hi Bonnie !
I really like both of these and didn't even notice the tree until it was mentioned (The guy on the bike held my focus). The 2nd one is superb!

Re: Morning Walk and First Ride of Spring

Hi Bonnie, I'm going to be tough.
The 2nd painting is perfect in every way! It's full of color and life.
The 1st painting is a lonely scene - compositional. I liked that you added a bit of green to the sky (top), but would have liked it more if you had added leaves in the style of the 2nd painting (there is too much water and branches). The man on the bicycle is well done, but would have been better if the wheel overlapped the tree. The grass edge bothers me some as it looks like its a green wall with a white edge on top. The shadow on the man and bicycle is excellent, but it took me awhile to notice it.
