Abstract critiques welcome

This is my first attempt at an abstract painting. I usually paint still lifes in oils.

Name: White Coat
Acrylics on 30"x 30" wood panel

I don't usually paint abstracts but a friend of mine asked me to paint one for him. He just got into medical school and originally I had three doctors wearing white coats.

Well done. I like the think painterly technique. If you enjoyed painted this I would encourage you to try more abstracts.

Awesome use of the paint. Look up Georg Baselitz, Leon Kossoff, and Allison Schulnik. Your abstracted work is very abstract expressionism like and thats my favorite kinds of work

Re: Abstract critiques welcome

Thank you, I was hoping the faces at the bottom would "pop" out more. I will definitely look up the artists you mentioned

I think I might go back and work on this one more

aaagggghhh.. The faces are perfect!!! my opinion... they don't need to be defined anymore, because that's what makes the painting so well done!

Welcome to the Forum!
If you make changes, I hope you will share the updates and if possible a close up shot so we can appreciate the brushwork.

I like this - well done! I wouldn't want the faces to pop more than they are. I really like the way they appear just after I get the initial overall impression of the abstract.
I too hope you will explore this style/genre some more

Re: Abstract critiques welcome

I am not sure if the changes were for the better. I also include a close up photo. The painting does look better in person

I like the changes, the eyes are less ominous, in my humble opinion. Thank you for the close up photo.
