Re: What if people touch your painting?

People touching my work has never crossed my mind. Now that it has, I may look into body painting... just saying

I don't think I'd mind if they just touched it lightly. If they start picking or scratching at it, or letting their kids play with it, then I might have an issue.

You might also want to consider that people who buy art, who have money, are .... "older".

Hmm, body painting in combination with a Wet Paint - Do Not Touch sign. Yeah, that should be "interesting". Let us know if it's a money maker for you.

I am always surprised at how free people feel to touch things that don't belong to them. I was raised with a strong "if it's not yours, don't touch it" ethos. Doubly so for art in galleries or museums.

Anyone who touches art in a studio deserves the paint fingerprints they will (hopefully) leave on their clothing etc. When I was doing blacksmithing I always had to warn people that black iron can be just as hot as red, so don't touch! People would see a piece of iron fly off the anvil to land on the grass and reach down to pick it up, despite the obvious tendrils of smoke rising up from the smoldering scorching grass.

Hmmm... attempt at humor folks, not a plan for a serious endeavor .

Re: What if people touch your painting?

People constantly touch my work. No I do not like it, I especially don't like it when people deliberately walk on my work and I especially, especially don't like it when people deliberately walk on my work in high heels.
When people do any of the above I tend to get so angry I become physically shaken, this is me suppressing my instinct to pummel their face in with my fist.

Fortunately, my work is very sturdy and it often takes only a few minutes to fix it, but it's the complete and utter disrespect I get angry at, like how would they like it if I walked all over their luxury car? Or going into their office and deleting the last report that they had been writing for the last year? Some people are just so resentful of the arts that the only way they can express any appreciation for it is to destroy it.
