Walking the dog down our lane on a sunny early Autumn morning I was struck, as ever, by the light and shadow around me. So I took a photo and, when I got home, went to the studio and composed the shape of the light. I seem to be working like this a lot lately, starting with a nice abstract shape for the light. Working on Uart dark helps with that!
The finished piece is 17×13″ and I revelled in adding colour. C&C welcome

That’s really beautiful, Ruthie, and your abstract underpainting has quite an appeal! Your steps show that it’s not about this plant or that plant but about the whole sunlit shape. Colors do seem to glow more when they are on a very dark background!

I love the way your light shape creates a pathway through your painting. It directs my eyes upward; it really lifts up my spirit. Your colors and contrasts are superb.

Thank you very much everyone. I’m glad you like it. Though it was fun to do I didn’t really rate it when completed as it didn’t turn out like the vision in my head! But I realise that my natural style will out so am trying to stop fighting that now
