I've been a member for a while, but mainly observing. Just wanting to say hello. I'm 57, started painting my dreams about 5 years ago, and just loving art. The dreams appear as fully formed abstract artworks. I do mostly acrylic paintings on canvas, but some of my dreams involve clay and other forms like collage.

I'm attempting to photograph my work, although its a steep learning curve in terms of getting the light right etc. Mainly the challenges I'm having are computer-related (old dog-new tricks . I'm using Fast stone which is nice and simple, but would like to learn illustrator or photoshop at some point.

Hi, it's nice to meet you.

It can be awkward to photograph paintings, we recently redid a bathroom and I wouldn't let my husband take out the old light because it's perfect for photos.

There are some great threads about photographing paintings or if you're stuck you can ask in the photography forum for advice about your set up and what will work for you.

We also have forums for acrylics and clay and abstracts and all sorts of genres, which I'm sure you're probably familiar with, jump right in wherever you'd like.

Enjoy the forums and be sure to check out the Member FAQís for help navigating the forums, posting, inserting images and more. Let us know if you need any help.

Re: Newbie from New Zealand

Hello! Wow, I have tried painting but personally Iím not very good at it. I have never used PhotoShop, as I donít really like digital artwork that much, though itís fun to make. Since I do more anime and toon art, camera quality isnít much of a problem. If it is, I usually do digital as it doesnít need to be photographed.

I think itís cool learning about new artists, as I hardly know any fellow artists where I live. And thatís why I joined!
