Thanks Pips. I haven't had time to refine him yet, but hope to on the weekend.

I’m not sure if my added layers made much of a difference, but here’s my officially signed and fixed drawing. Thanks for letting me join you!

Re: September/ October drawing challenge Motion

Nicely drawn dove christel! And thank you for your kind words and advice.

I made it to the store to pick up a blender pencil. I ended up with a 2 pack prismacolor brand instead of derwent. I hope it is similar quality? if not it was only a $3 mistake.. I also picked up some smooth “ultra black graphite” to try out.

Thanks Gibby!
Prismacolor sounds fine to me. That ultra black sounds great too!

Re: September/ October drawing challenge Motion

Paul, great work on the water and the runner. I think with the runner, if you check out her neck, you could add just a slight shading there to show how she's stretching it out. You have some nice tension in her muscles on the arms. I think you forgot her bellybutton, if you add that and a bit of shading under it, it'll accent how she's bending forward as she runs. Drawing a runner dead on is the toughest, I think. You did an amazing job of it.

Gibby, that's wonderful. I keep looking at the pattern on her shirt, it's so so good. As for getting really in there with the darks, back in the dark ages when I was in school, we used to use a piece of paper with a small cutout circle so we could isolate the color/greys/tones we were going for. I think your instincts were good here as often photos make darks darker than they are in real life. Your tulle skirt is lovely!

Christel, what a challenge to draw a white bird with charcoal, that's awesome!

Thanks Paul and Virginia! There's still plenty of time left for more drawings.
