I thought I saw somewhere the mention of a portable watercolor palette box with a porcelain insert? Was I dreaming or is there such a thing? I love my little porcelain palettes but they’re not in a portable kit. Can anyone direct me to one? I just know I saw a post mentioning one but at the time I was busy and couldn’t investigate and now I can’t find anything about one.

We must leave our mark on this worldApril 10, 2018 at 3:59 am #602380There’s a Schmincke special edition, but the original paints are in the porcelain holes, so you need to take them out and carry separately.
Are you looking for a mixing palette, or a porcelain tube-paint storage surface with holes?

April 10, 2018 at 12:46 pm #602382Thank you, Doug. I’ll check there.
For both actually, Edmund. I love the white, easy-clean surface and, even though porcelain adds weight, I still don’t mind that. The trade-off is worth it to me. Here at home I have two very small and one larger Jack Richeson covered porcelain palettes and I commandeered one of my plain white Corelle dinner plates to use as another, larger area for mixing, but carrying a dinner plate for plen aire seems awkward. lol I don’t live near my sons and grandsons anymore or I could have one of them make me something more portable. I paint small things so I don’t need huge areas for paint. I paint from 9×12 on down right now. I’m not sure if I’ll eventually paint bigger or not.
I’ll go see if I can find information now.

There is also a vertical lunchbox style box from Sennelier which I find really lovely but have managed to resist as I’m giving all my money to Craig and John these days …

I think this is actually the most practical way to use a porcelain palette – with the big tube set- but not necessarily the most portable.

I have thought myself of designing a porcelain insert, sized to work with Craig’s or John’s offerings, but it wouldn’t have that many paint-locations in the end. The best idea would be to have one in the bottom of a box and one in the lid, both box and lid could be flat. If someone here is interested in a porcelain brass box combo, please get in touch …Edmund

April 11, 2018 at 6:58 pm #602383Just by chance, I ran across a youtube of one from Sennelier yesterday. It’s a beautiful wooden box with about 12 half pans (I think they were half) and a porcelain insert with rectangular mixing wells.
Thank you for the links. I’ll go check those out.
Right now I have plenty of paint, brushes and paper. I don’t get out much for physical reasons. I keep telling myself I just don’t need to tantalize myself…. but then I do it anyway. :envy:
May 29, 2018 at 8:19 pm #602384Hello! First time posting, but Stephanie Law has a Kickstarter happening with a porcelain palette insert. It fits into a 3″ round steel plated tin. It has 37 wells, and depending on your pledge you can also get a 7 well mixing tray to go with the mini palette.
I don’t know if it’s allowed to post the link to the actual Kickstarter campaign, but if not, just delete the link? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/292149352/mini-pal-ettes
