Use to denote nudity/mature subject matter July session

From June through September, our LD session meets just once a month for an "open" class, no instruction, just come and draw. Since summer is the slowest time here in Arizona, activitywise, we don't get many attendees. Last night was typical. Just our friend Jim showed up. So he and Jan and I did a two hour single pose. Here's the drawings. I include my "gesture" study as well. The way the light hit the figure, the simple structure of the body's form was evident. Geo

Jan's drawing, charcoal, 18 x 24

Jim's drawing charcoal, 18 x 24

My gesture study and two hour charcoal lift, 18 x 24

Re: July session

Ha.. Did the model go to sleep ? I would in that pose It's very cool to see these, different interpretations from different angles. From a composition perspective, I find Jim's to be more engaging than Jan's. I think in Jan's perspective, there are more repetitive patterns, which might be contributing. In any case, this is not meant as a negative remark on the drawing as such. Just an observation.

Re: July session

Wonderful drawings Geo. Whilst I like the simplicity of Jan's i feel Jim's has a crumpledness which seems more real. With your gesture I feel the proportions seem better than the more considered pose (with a more reduced background)

Nathan; I agree, I think a little was lost from gesture to finished drawing. Good eye. Geo

Re: July session

George I think Jan picked a difficult position to convey...did well, I like the crop and feeling of Jim's, and your charcoal fine... though I do like the extra energy of the quicker pose.

Re: July session

Well done! If only 3 artists turn up here they relocate to the nearest pub!
