I got back to our weekly portrait session on Thursday last after missing a couple of weeks. Fairly pleased with this one, because I got a good likeness as well as doing some painterly stuff. Our sitter, Anne, presented us with challenges, not least because of that head of tangled hair! About two hours from life with some studio tweaks next morning – oil on 14″ x 11″ MDF panel.

Thanks Moises. “Picky” is good – I am primarily a landscape painter after all! Yes, I agree, but I took a photo and that nasal wing is actually fairly accurate. I think the error is a lack of symmetry – the left one is a bit off. Anyway, these are all just practice for me, so a learning process.

Thanks Harry. A couple of minor “drawing errors”, but I’m quite pleased with this one.

Thanks Ken. Yes, that’s my plein air experience I think. Now if I could only get my “drawing” skills to a similar level!

You are very consistent with your colours- it looks to my eye as if it could be pastel or oil. (Yes I know it’s oils!)bethany

Thanks Wassie. Painted from life under an artificial warm light to her upper right and cooler natural daylight on her left – hence the colour variation.
