Re: KIUAN Exercise 16 — Thinking About Negativity in a Positive Way! + Harmonious Triads!
Hi Sandy – thanks for the compliments.
I love doing the alcohol bubbles it’s so neat! The Viridian exercise was fun too, and now that I know what I’m doing, I’d do that again sometime maybe using a different green, or perhaps two or three shades of green. Or, perhaps using Ultramarine for an ocean effect! Oh no, don’t tell me - I’ve gotten hooked on negative painting!!!

Bev,
Sounds like you are beginning to see the appeal of negative painting.
Your use of alcohol for the bubbles really worked well, especially with the little fishes.
Love the varidian landscape. It has a soft and dreamy look.

Thank you both for your kind words and your support, I couldn’t have “hung in there” without it.
This was definitely an eye opening experience, Sylvia; I can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve for April!!
Thanks again! Merci beaucoup!
Clode. . . . je vous remercie pour votre aide supplémentaire et des explications . . . tous très bons!
Happy Friday, everyone!

Re: KIUAN Exercise 16 — Thinking About Negativity in a Positive Way! + Harmonious Triads!
Okay, okay, I’ll quit now!
I had to do one more Viridian Landscape, ‘cause I just love the way it looks. This is a card for my Sister’s birthday next month, one of a couple I plan on doing for her.
This one has really nothing to-do with our exercise, but I wanted to show you what plastic wrap does to Ultramarine and dabs of Viridian – my newest BFF!!! Another birthday card.

Bev,
What lovely cards you've made. Your sister is going to really be happy with her gift of your art.
The FUB and Viridian turned out great. You can use plastic wrap as a head start for a negative painting project too.

Re: KIUAN Exercise 16 — Thinking About Negativity in a Positive Way! + Harmonious Triads!
Hi
Great discussion! Coming in late on this so this may have already been discussed. I am a big fan of using a triad. However, when teaching negative painting to my students I start by having them use only 2 of the 3. This keeps mud issues out of the picture while I hook them into falling in love and or obsessed with negative painting.

Hi Sue,
Welcome to the Exercise. That's a very good suggestion when discussing just negative painting...I'll keep it in mind for my Beginning Watercolor Class I'll be teaching in May.
For this KIUAN Exercise, we combined two previous ones so we started off discussing and practicing Harmonious Triads and then moved on to using what we learned there with negative painting.

Re: KIUAN Exercise 16 — Thinking About Negativity in a Positive Way! + Harmonious Triads!
Thank you to all who participated in this KIUAN Exercise this last month. I hope you will continue to use what you learned about triads and negative painting in your work from now one.
We are starting a new Monthly Class on Fur: Cats and Dogs and Maybe More today. Check out the sticky at the top of the Learning Zone later this morning. Robert (skappy) will be leading the class and helping us all figure out how to paint realistic fur and other elements that make animal paintings so beautiful.
