Picasso asked someone if they found meaning in the singing of a song bird. in my own work i hope to attract and hold the attention of any one regardless of their previous knowledge. rothko was very concerned of the interaction of the painting and the viewer. no matter what the painting offers, the viewers brings some too. in the case of malevich i would have to say he succeeded in stirring thought, as here we are almost a 100 years later bringing up his name just because of a little black square.
