gray for sale

This morning I got spammed by Amazon for twelve 21ml tubes of Golden paint in shades of grey

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...930_em_1p_0_lm

Amazon advertisers have spent $356,854.32 trying to get me to buy stuff, and this time I think they may have got me. Sure you could mix these yourself, but when you need small amounts, consistent batches, to mix with
other colors, etc.

etc. imo this could come in handy.

If nothing else you're getting 252ml of Golden Acrylics for $19.00

What say you?

Re: gray for sale

Nope. I can mix all those colors on my own. And when I mix them I know they will be a mix of the colors used in the painting. For me it would be a waist. I'd never use them. I think it's like the other grays Golden has. It's a gimmick.

Re: gray for sale

I don't see anything wrong with that. I have sets of various greyed watercolor pan paints (Japanese), and enjoy them immensely, they are so much fun!

I imagine designers would love this! (Who want ready-made colors)

Of course, it's best to mix grayed colors, using the color wheel - Since these are pre-mixed and are opaque (yes?), they might look, out of the tube, a bit color-by-number.

But still!! This is really a nice little guilty pleasure Really a nice idea.

Re: gray for sale

Yeah, what Dolphinfsg said. There is no statement anywhere including on Amazon that these are Golden. I have definitely done okay with some weird brand brushes on Amazon but paints can be messy.

Caveat emptor.

Re: gray for sale

I can't find out who the manufacturer is, but they've been around since 2013 it looks like (with the art supply companies) and there are a couple of YouTube videos (Jerry's Art-o-Rama) about them from 2015. No mention though in the video who the maker is, they do call themselves 12 Shades of Grey (the company).

On the Amazon page they couple these with a few tubes of Golden paints in a buy all togeether. I've made similar mistakes before and I'm positive this is done to trick us impulse buyers!

I agree with Wet Rat - best to mix your own blacks and grays.

Re: gray for sale

In the Amazon add there is a lightfastness chart for the colors and each is rated at least very good lightfastness and some are rated excellent lightfastness. So if the chart is to be believed, longevity should be okay. I have seen the set at Jerry's Art-O-Rama and thought about it for underpainting, but the tubes are all smaller than I would use (I use the large size tubes for all but a few colors)

And if these paints are lethal, they're probably not as lethal as paint mixtures used in Shakespeare's time, which included blood, feces/urine, insects, and earth/raw dirt. The best, most expensive paints (made with lapis lazuli and emerald), were stored in pig bladders to keep their vibrancy. The black plague from a painting? And everyone thought the black plague started with rats.

I agree, nevertheless, people take what's said/shown at face value. For example, Wilson Sporting Goods makes footballs. Uniquely, the balls were made of leather (possibly from a deer) and a pig's bladder. Wilson improved the marketable image and design of footballs, basically as good as Gold, except they're Brown.

Re: gray for sale

If it's about acrylic paints, it's fine here.

Re: gray for sale

For a while I had a tube of middle value grey and would mix any local color into that. It's an excellent way to guarantee you don't over saturate.
