Hi, I’m new here. This is my first attempt at painting wildlife. Unfortunately, I have only seen a moose from a distance so, apart from the reference photo, I relied on internet images and a Robert Bateman book. The photo showed the moose in a snowy setting which lacked contrast so I decided to put her in the dark and give her some highlights. Any input, C & C’s would be appreciated.
18″x 24″. Pastel on hardboard.

Thanks Kay! My background was basically black so I found that a little pure color was needed to enliven the neutrals.
