Re: Feb 2020 Miniature Monthly Challenge

These photos are not mine, Christel. I simply uploaded these from the internet. Sorry if I failed to make that clear when I posted them. Virginia, would love to see what the northern hemisphere night sky looks like. Wonderful vista to fall asleep to.

Re: Feb 2020 Miniature Monthly Challenge

I'll try and find ones that show the northern lights that we got. Our northern lights were mostly green (they pick up more color the more north you go) and they danced gently. It's absolutely mesmerizing. I know they get them in New Zealand but I don't know if it's common to see them? My sister went through from south to north. She took a tour half the way and rented a car and drove the rest herself, took her weeks and she loved every minute of it.

Re: Feb 2020 Miniature Monthly Challenge

Are you referring to your Aurora Boreallis? If so, I've heard of it. Famous the world over. There's a southern hemisphere version - the Aurora Australis. Similar and just as dancy. Lol.

I was referring more to that dark sky view of the stars, something you get quite easily down in McKenzie country (where Tekapo is). If you head west towards Mt Cook (or Mt Aoraki as they've renamed it) off the beaten track, and then camp out, you'll see what I mean. It just numbs you with awe. And the feeling of insignificance while sometimes scary for some will nevertheless be an experience you will never forget. Oh, and it's best to be lying down when viewing the stars otherwise you'll end up on your back anyway in a most awkward and possibly injurious way. Lol.

Re: Feb 2020 Miniature Monthly Challenge

Yes, we get the darker views too, especially when on canoe trips and there was no light pollution at all. In northern Ontario, the landscape is made up of what they call the Canadian Shield, leftover gigantic rocks and smooth rock plateaus with the scars of receding glaciers from the last ice age on them. They are the oldest exposed rocks in the world and they are surprisingly comfortable to lay on.

This photographer has some great shots of the Canadian sky (click here).. This one has some great shots of the areas where I spent most of the summer (click here).

Lovely photos both links, Vriginia. That dark sky especially. Nothing beats Mother Nature. Nothing.

Re: Feb 2020 Miniature Monthly Challenge

Those are so well done! The background is so cool. It looks wonderful. It's funny the one with the dog almost looks like it's textured with little dog prints.

I love the prairies too. I can imagine how the stars look out there, it much be amazing.
