Autumn Reflection

Oil on panel
24x36”

After almost a year of sitting on the wall to “dry more” I finally got around to finishing her. Honestly, summers hardly inspire me, so needless to say, I’m excited for winter 😋

Re: Autumn Reflection

This is utterly charming. It has a very illustrative feel to it. Love the wild, ragged outlines of the distant trees, the elegant fog coming off the water, the graceful lins in the grass.

One thing I can not understand is that this is oils - it has such a flat illustrated kind of feel as if it is gouache, or maybe watercolor.

It does have that feel of watercolor. Wonderful - makes me want to go fishing or just row out into the middle of the lake and relax.

Re: Autumn Reflection

Yeah, I've always sorta painted that way, ever since high school, before I taught myself about mediums. Growing up, Georgia O'Keeffe was my favorite painter, so maybe that has a lot to do with it.

Re: Autumn Reflection

You have a very lovely painting...well done! It takes a delicate touch and a gift to convey an oil painting in your style. Good Job

Re: Autumn Reflection

Superb, moody painting. I too also thought 'watercolor' when I saw it, but I'll take your word for it . Fantastic work!

Re: Autumn Reflection

My two favorite parts are your treatment of the mist over the water and the vegetation at the bottom left.

Re: Autumn Reflection

Thank you all for the positive comments. You’ve honestly given me something to consider, as I never realized my painting style was more akin to water based media/illustration. As much as I’d enjoy the solvent free convenience of acrylic/watercolor/ or gouche, I can’t get a handle on the accelerated dry times. (Though I do enjoy watercolor, actually). While I have done thicker, more ‘painterly’ pieces, my brain can’t seem to handle chaos, and is always inclined to smooth things over. (Though, I do greatly enjoy observing that style of painting). Perhaps in time, I’ll loosen up, but due to the nature of building a marketable portfolio, I’ll be sticking to this style for a bit longer 😜 (Though, by nature, I hate thematic/stylistic restrictions &#128529.

Re: Autumn Reflection

Excellent painting! And, your depiction of that foggy mist on the water is exceptional!
