In search of phenolic bed plate for older DB Master Etch press...

I'm looking for a phenolic bed plate (approximately 23" x 36") for an older Dick Blick Master Etch press. I got the press for a steal at $500 but the previous owner was using a beat up piece of wood for the bedplate to press candles wax of all things!! The press has been nicley preserved and is rust free thanks to the wax coating. Also, is an aromatic pleasure, smelling of bees wax.
I searched the DB site but have had no luck (haven't called them yet though).
I thought all the brilliant minds here might have an idea where to find one or maybe suggest an alternative?? Thanks

You should be able to call them to get a phenolic plate of that size. If not, I believe that Richeson is the maker of their presses and you might try them. And, if that does not work, here's a link for the bedplate at madison art shop at $199.00. It is the plate you need. If you happen to compare it to the presses they carry, other than name, they are identical to the Blick presses.

Congrats on a great find! They are retailing at $3500!

Fireproof chemistry counters are made of phenolic resin. You might look for one of those that you could cut to fit your press. There should be school and govt. surplus auctions somewhere in St. Louis.
I've seen people use MDF, sheet steel, plywood, etc. As long as the surface is reasonably flat, your options are wide open.

Hi Eonratslear,
We would be happy to assist you with locating a new bed for your press. It would probably be easiest if you gave us a call so that we get the correct
bed for the press you have. You can PM us if you need the phone number.

If D.B. can't help you, look here:

I'm not sure of the grade of phenolic used for presses, but there are a bunch available at Mcmaster, and you can get the cut to specifications...
