Re: September 2019 Challenge and Chat

Virginia, like the area where you live. Sammy looks good peeking out of the car. Glad he's feeling better but sad to hear that he might be blind in one eye.
Kay, thanks for the comment on the red shoes, don't remember the red for the shoes I used. I have a mixture of watercolor paints and forget the shades of some of them. Like your Alamo painting.
Will try to do some more.

Re: September 2019 Challenge and Chat

Hello everyone.
I have been here at the beginning of the year but left without a word, sorry about that.

Virginia, thank you very much for these challenges. I happen to have a cat with kind of the same name, I use several diminutives of the word cat in Spanish. Is the color of her eye true to nature or is it just in the photograph?

Christel, very nice car, you show very well its materials and forms. The shoes as well of course, but I very much prefer cars.

LiL, nicely done on those shiny shoes.

Kay, WOW! A complicated reference and,..., well, it doesn't look any easier now. I just admire your painting, especially the foreground.

This is my first pen and wash and I tried some new supplies for the first time too.
Paper - Guarro, 240gsm 60%cotton rough. Great improvement over my Canson Imagine, which I don't really like for watercolors, but it is so cheap.
Watercolors - Sennelier. I have Van Gogh, which are more than good enough, but was looking for a metallic box and they made me an offer impossible to refuse.
Size - 14.5 x 9.5 cm or 5.7 x 3.7 inches.

So nice to see you back, individuo, and your work of the Alamo is outstanding, showing mostly the old fort as it was back in Texas so many years ago.

Thanks for the comments on mine.

That's gorgeous Individuo!

Kitten's are golden. They are even more gold in real life.

It's nice to see you.

Re: September 2019 Challenge and Chat

I did a quickie of the Alamo, in my little sketchbook. It's 5x5. It says August on it as that's when we visited there.

This was done with a dip pen and India ink. That's my husband's finger holding down the page for me, it was a bit wavy.

October is coming up fast!

Virginia, that's great! I love it.
Did you use a touch of water for the little washes here and there? Or is it something else?

Re: September 2019 Challenge and Chat

Thank you all!

individuo ~ yup, you are right. I used a bit of water, I find the glass dip pens are very useful for ink washes or to carry a bit of water through what's on the paper. They have a swirl that hold the ink or water. I've had them for years but only recently started using them.
