Update of old portrait (x-post in pastels)

When I finished this portrait, a year ago, I was very excited and I loved it. However, over the year, every time I looked at it, I saw more and more that was wrong with it. So, I finally tried to fix it up a little. I know it is not very good, but I certainly like it better than it was.

As our skills improve we see more ways to get to the next level. It is always helpful to push ourselves and keep on that learning journey.
I have done this many times- not with pastels, though. When it is in oils, it is easy to add another layer to improve the portrait!

Much improved! The flesh tones are more natural, the colors richer, and the hair is more exciting and also flows nicely making it more natural looking.

Good work, Ginny, much better work later. How good it is to give our work an honest look at a later date. I've done that and some proved exceedingly bad, while, always to my surprise, some looked pretty good too. Very good pastel work.

Loretta, yes, I'm surprised to go back and look at things that I thought were so bad back then, but now they don't seem so bad. But, yes, it is good to be able to rework some that WERE actually that bad. LOL!

Great work - it’s amazing how we can look back and see good and bad aspects with fresh eye. The warmth added to the flesh really helped - IMO.

The flesh tones overall have much better warm range and contrast! You’ve improved in control of the medium, that is sure.
