Tempest - WIP

This is going to be a surrealist painting. I didn't know where else to post it.
It's a 16x20" canvas. I used some ceramic mastik for a 3D textured effect around the top and bottom, then painted in oils.

Re: Tempest - WIP

Oh I like that. Wish I could see it in person with the texture. Is there much work to be done yet? Makes me feel like im looking out from or into a cave, or into a hole in the ground and theres a storm, the clouds look 3d as if they are being set free between worlds. Reminds me a little of some passages in journey to the center of the earth, with underground oceans and storms.

It would probably be at home in the contemporary/abstract forum, they will love it..

Yvonne, this is just super with wonderful texture and I love this type of composition that just pulls the viewer right in. Wonderful effect with the the movement in the water and that moody sky.

Yes composition catches the eye. I also like the swirling water and volume in the clouds.

Sevan, John, Arnie

You are all such amazing painters, this feedback mean a lot to me - thank you to all of you!

Sevan - I'll post a closeup photo. I don't know how long it will take. It has to dry before I can add the next component unless I change my mind and do something else. Thank you for your description - this feedback really helps me gage the viewer's point of view for the narrative part of it. I'll ask an admin where to post this or maybe it will become more obvious later.

Thank you CaliAnn

Here is a close up of the texture from mastik - as you see it's really thick:

Today I worked in some colour at the base and lightened the top. I still don't know what's coming. At this point I need to wait for the oil to dry as I always use too much!

Thank you Bizibee

Caroline Thank you. I love your interpretation. I was actually thinking whether or not to add some kind of medieval celtic princess in there (so this castle you put there was amazing) but I still haven't made up my mind what this painting is asking me to do with it.

I just added a bit more colour and am just trying to be patient with this process. I am also tempted to call it finished and leave the mystery up to the viewer!

Re: Tempest - WIP

I like the additions of colour and a darker area above. It could also be a cave too!!
