Epic Fail

Anyone ever ruin a not too terrible painting with poor signature placement?
I planned to title this "Picking Up the Pieces" until I realized the horrible signature placement at the end. I may have to change the title to "Who the H*** is LCARTER12?" now as it seems for fitting to the quizzical "staring at the sig" look by the rooster. 5x7 oil on greeting card

Nice rooster, but I have to agree about the location of the signature. I'd have to cover it and relocate. Nice rooster just the same.

Re: Epic Fail

No time to fix as I have to give the birthday card today. Here's my "I wanna be an artist" training schedule: paint, learn from mistakes, repeat

Arrrgh. Unless the recipient is another artist, they probably won't even notice.

Live and learn! The chicken is a lot of fun though.

Nice one! In a way, its kind of cool that the chicken is looking at your signature. You can fib and tell owner that you planned it that way for fun!

Re: Epic Fail

Great rooster, Larry. Yes, the placement of the name is not quite ideal, but even so, there's something charming about the way the rooster is looking at the signature. It's almost like a little secret message...maybe more people will take notice of your name and want to see more of your work.

Love the rooster, just the same.

Re: Epic Fail

I kind of like it too. After reading your note, I laughed when I saw it. How many times has someone called their handwriting "chicken scratch"?
And the rooster is great!

Re: Epic Fail

Light hearted and fun painting! I'd leave it just the way it is and let the viewer come to any conclusion they like. You could even wrap it and title it "Chicken Scratch."

Re: Epic Fail

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. The lady I gave this to is a person we're building a new friendship with. My wife accidentally broke a rooster vase in her kitchen last weekend when we were attending a get-together with this new group for the first time. The "Pickin' Up the Pieces" title was planned as an inside joke and a new decoration to help replace the broken vase. She loved the painting, distracting signature and all.
