        Have any of you found something similar to Gomuban for relief block printing? I really like it but it seems pretty expensive at $12 plus shipping for an approx. 12×16 sheet.

        yes… Aspen wood. Unlike Gomuban, it is a rigid material and doesn’t cut like butter…. but it is easy to carve, has virtually no grain, and holds a nice clean cut. It is available at many home improvement stores. In my local store, you can get 12 x 96 boards for less than $10.

        The real beauty of a woods like Aspen is that they will carry a far finer image than the soft plastics, while still being easy to carve.

            Thanks, I will see if I can find some. How does it compare to Sintra?

            I’m not sure, since I’ve not used Sintra. It is about the same as Japanese Shina plywood…. but a lot cheaper.
