I'm taking a break from watercolors to explore using acrylics wet-in-wet like watercolors. I did a smaller test (that was posted in Watermedia) on a scrap piece of paper, and now I tried a half sheet of watercolor paper (22x15 Arches 300#). Following a Stephen Quiller demo, I saturated the paper with water and layed down a loose red-orange background, and then added more opaque layers as the paper dried, trying not to overwork it.

Thanks for looking Ona. No, I'm not hooked yet, I still prefer the blending characteristics of watercolors, although with acrylics, I don't have to "save" my whites! I'll keep working with them though.

I agree Rich - great atmosphere! I like the way the red-orange under painting ties it all together, and of course, those beautiful pops of rich color! Well done!

Rich, this is gorgeous- the shadows in the snow in particular I just love! Nice glow to the orange trees! You seem to have quite a knack for using the acrylics as watercolors- it would be well worth it to keep at it!

Wow - what a successful experiment this is!! It's fresh and spontaneous, definitely not overworked. As already stated, those orange glows are very effective. I look forward to seeing more!!

Rich, this is a very strong and dynamic piece! Wonderful! I got to meet Quiller at Watermedia 2000 in Houston and see him do a demo, then in 2007 got to see his originals in a Taos gallery.
