Hi Landscape friends! Happy to share with y’all that I’ve been juried into my very first plein air competition in the spring. Yikes! Now I’m working on whipping myself into my best painting shape for this event. Here’s a little study from today. Working on loosening up, simplifying, and decreasing my working time. This is 12×16, oil on canvas. C and C most welcome:wave:

This is great, bringing the sky into the frame as a reflection. The variety of textures helps make this an attractive and interesting painting. I look forward to seeing your results from the competition. Gary

Congratulations! This is a very nice painting. Great colors, nice depth in the plants. I don’t love the impasto leaves in the foreground. They seem to distract from the overall sense of peace in this lovely painting. But that is just a matter of taste and no criticism of your work. Good luck!

Congrats getting into the Plein Air event Heather!

Great job with the many subtle greens and Autumn leaves. The reflection in the pond is wonderful, especially with that sky color on the perimeter…..

Such a beautiful painting Heather … wonderful textures and I have to agree that the water is handled superb.

Hi Gary, Bardo, Wes, Hans, Ginny, Derek, Richard, and John. Thanks so much for your encouraging comments!
Bardo, I agree with you on the foreground foliage. I would handle it differently next time. Too spotty I think.

This is very nice, you have the sense of realism down. I like your style too, with the soft muted colors and how they diffuse into all the vegetation. I like that water reflection, and how you were able to get it slightly darker than the top, and putting lilies in there adds more life to it.

Wonderful mirror-like reflections captured in the still water. The cool greens are well complemented by those warmer colors & I like your rendering of that overhanging foliage which becomes progressively more textured towards the foreground. – Well Painted, Heather AKA Lucy !

I like the original choice of colors.

Everything else being equal, I would rather be in the painting zone.
