February 17, 2018 at 10:52 am #567399Nice…..i like your style. I wish you had shown a little more of the interior. That is obviously the COI but it doesn’t hold my interest very long. Just a little less dark so that the shapes could hold my interest longer…..maybe make me try to guess what I am looking at on the inside. Just a suggestion.

It is a very sad thing that nowadays there is so little useless information. - Oscar WildeFebruary 17, 2018 at 12:17 pm #567404This is really nice. On my monitor, I can see things inside the store, but I think atlee is right, lift a little light in there and tease me.

February 17, 2018 at 3:38 pm #567405Thanks Atlee and Scott for your input. The source photo had this area virtually flat black. This is typical of photography, and the trap when you “copy” the source too directly. This also opens the discussion on how to approach dark passages such as this doorway, or backgrounds, etc. Learning, learning, practice and more practice.
As long as there is light, I will paint it.

Thanks.
Yes, It us supposed to represent one of those kids- rides, where you throw in coins and it moves about. It was actually a little donkey ( scene is El Rule Mexico). You will also notice the old arcade game machine to the left.:)
As long as there is light, I will paint it.

Regrettably not. Being South African, this is not possible (for now). But, I follow his blog avidly, and do the exercises he sets for his students each month, and absorb as much of the guidance he so generously shares as I can.
Have you done a workshop him deb ?

Painting is not everything in life - but without painting everything is nothing!February 18, 2018 at 7:13 am #567409I really like this style. I like the darker interior. It make me imagine what might be in there.

February 18, 2018 at 11:11 am #567403Hi John, Yes I took a workshop with Tom in cape cod, Massachusetts. I thoroughly enjoyed his teaching. He would take an innocuous subject (it was all plein air) and transform it into a beautiful painting. His mantra was to keep it simple. His book is very good also.

February 18, 2018 at 11:14 am #567408Hi deb. :envy: You are so fortunate to have interacted with Tom Hoffman. When it comes to his work and teaching – nothing but deep respect. I gather he uses hot pressed paper. I have yet to try that.
As long as there is light, I will paint it.
