The Path - A Summer Landscape

This painting is inspired by Frank Vincent DuMond's (1865 - 1951 ) painting "Top of the Hill" ( 1906 ) -

I saw his painting many years ago and was captivated by it; thus I acquired a print which has been in my studio all these years -

Since I am hunkered down in my warm studio, watching it snow, with 25 below zero temperatures outside and painting my series of Summer Landscapes, I thought his painting would be just right for my endeavor -

I finished this painting late last night: Oil on panel, 12 x 16; Palette: Yellow Cadmium Light, Yellow Ochre, Alizarin Crimson, Transparent Mummy, Ultramarine Blue, Prussian Blue, Terre Verte, Raw Umber, Cremnitz White -

All comments and suggestions always welcome -

Thank you for viewing - Hud

Hud, this is a stunning work! It feels timeless with those warm greens. It brings to mind a slower pace, a country life, and just joy, overall. I couldn't resist looking up the original painting and I think you've added your own touch to your version. It's a similar composition, but the style is uniquely yours. Really beautiful work!

Jenna: Thank you - I wanted to paint the scene in such a manner that one felt invited into the painting; a place of warmth and peacefulness -

Thanks for viewing -

Re: The Path - A Summer Landscape

It reminds me of an Old English painting depicting the English countryside - well done.

I like your cool greens in the shadows, warming up the hill. Welcoming.

Sheila: Thank you for viewing - Yes, the day depicted in the painting would have been a great day for a "run"; plus place a wonderful spot for a breather -
