painting on top of epoxy resin

Can you paint on top of epoxy resin (envirotex)? Will it stick or fall off in a year or two? Does anyone have real world experience in this?

Thanks

Re: painting on top of epoxy resin

Main rule is to paint more flexible layer on top of hard layer to prevent cracks.
Epoxy resin is good and hard enough but has a glossy surface. So you need to make an adhesive thin layer among glossy surface and oil paint film. The best is dammar or fir varnish diluted in turpentine 1:5 or even colophony rosin diluted in mineral spirit.

Thumbs up Re: painting on top of epoxy resin

hey, ya i've done this (kinda...)

what I did was

1) fist, the first coat of resin over top of the painting

2) sand down the surface with finish sandpaper (black fine paper)

3) paint on top (the sanding will take away the gloss, and even look white a bit, but don't worry...)

4) add a SECOND COAT OF RESIN

that is the twist to what you are saying...

if you don't mind losing some gloss, you can sand down and the paint will stick really good and you wont need the second coat of resin...

hope that helps.
artresin is great. check it out the site has videos and a big faq that helped

Re: painting on top of epoxy resin

After reading this thread I had to share this artist's work: Riusuke Fukahori

He paints with acrylic over resin in many layers to create three dimensional sculptural paintings. Not sure whether he sands in between layers. I couldn't tell from this video for certain, but I don't think so. His work is a brilliant twist on painting.
