Hello,
Welcome to the June Monthly Challenge! We welcome all mediums and skill levels in this challenge, so please feel free to join us. If you’re new, jump right in – the more the merrier. If you’re returning, welcome back! Glad to have you!
Please offer encouraging feedback on one another’s artworks, but don’t give any harsh critique unless it’s requested by the artist. The photos this month are my own. I hope you find some inspiration in them. Draw or paint them as they are, or crop them, edit them, mix them up, or create your own compositions. I’m really looking forward to seeing what everyone will do for the Challenge this month! Happy creating!
A swallowtail butterfly.
Sunset.
Some of my favorite trees in the cattle pasture.
This abandoned house not far from home…has been standing empty for many years, but still looks so straight and square and lovely.
A steer in his pasture.
A pansy. I took this photo in October a few years ago – those pansies are stronger than they look! This was the last flower of the year.
A barn cat doing what a barn cat does…hunting and hanging out in trees.
An autumn photo of pretty yellow foliage.
A thirsty steer looking for his water tank to be filled…and making his complaints heard.
My dad’s old grain truck.

June 4, 2018 at 5:58 pm #633441Lately I’ve been playing with Yupo and watercolor – both so much fun and so frustrating at the same time! Here’s my take on the butterfly – c&c welcome
June 5, 2018 at 7:51 am #633413CaliAnn, wow! That really pops. Love the vibrant colors. My morning smile.

My website https://jocastilloart.comJune 5, 2018 at 9:05 am #633442Thank you Jo – lately I find myself wanting to do colorful, loose pieces. BTW – just visited your website – some gorgeous pastel paintings – love how you use light and color – really beautiful pieces
June 5, 2018 at 11:54 am #633420CaliAnn, this is amazing! I’m so happy you took such liberties with your colors. This sings! It’s so fluid and graceful. Outstanding work! What a great way to kick off this monthly challenge!

CaliAnn, thanks. I haven’t been painting much but sketch to keep my fingers in art. I love color and like to work fast so pastels and pen and ink are my favorite media.

My website https://jocastilloart.comJune 6, 2018 at 9:33 am #633444Christel – what an excellent job on that old house. I make a huge mess with charcoal, yours is so clean and crisp!
Jo – I love pastel, such a versatile medium – my favorite medium. Unfortunately, had to give them up recently due to some health issues and took up watercolors the last few months
June 6, 2018 at 12:21 pm #633421Christel, you have totally captured the feel of this old house. It’s beautifully done, and charcoal really suits this subject matter. Excellent work!
